About me and my art

My name is Eva Elmquist I work with glass. I shape the glass with a very old technique now known as fusing. It is actually the oldest way to shape the glass, a technology that is over 4000 years old. The Egyptians and Romans were skilled and shaped glass using this technique. At the Corning Museum in New York you can watch glass from that period. In about 500 AD glass blowing was the new technology and the old one was forgotten and it was long before the ancient technique of shaping glass reappeared. Sometime in the early 1930s people began to use the old technology again, but not until the 1960s , when the ancient collections triggered a renewed interest in stained glass, there was a development of the old technology which we today call fusing.
